About the Role

The Toronto Catholic District School Board is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team as an Educational Support Staff member. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equal access to education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary interpreter of communication between deaf and hard of hearing students and mainstream teachers and students.
  • Provide direct and full access to regular classroom areas and participate in extra-curricular activities.
  • Interpret for deaf and hard of hearing students, regular students/teachers in a normal classroom setting.
  • Carry out cross-cultural mediation and bimodal communication.
  • Instruct school staff and students about the role of the interpreter through workshops, handouts, and role plays.
Requirements
  • 3-year College Diploma in American Sign Language English Interpreter Program or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience.
  • Fluent in ASL, English, and manually-coded English.
  • General knowledge of Secondary School curricula.
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic verified through a Pastoral reference.
