Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Nutrition and Dietary Services, you will play a vital role in preparing and serving meals to residents while upholding the highest standards of food production, cleanliness, and sanitation within our kitchen environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals tailored to residents' dietary needs.
  • Maintain impeccable cleanliness and sanitation standards for all kitchen equipment and work areas.
  • Communicate promptly with the Supervisor/Cook regarding low food or supply inventory levels.
  • Receive, label, store, and verify incoming food and supplies in designated storage areas.
  • Prepare a variety of meals, snacks, and desserts, accommodating regular, texture-modified, and therapeutic diets.
  • Ensure that all served foods are palatable, at the correct temperature, and presented with appropriate portion sizes.
  • Immediately report any safety hazards to your supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean dining area, wash equipment, and collect and dispose of kitchen garbage responsibly.
  • Adhere to the assigned daily cleaning and work schedule diligently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • A valid Food Handler's Certificate is required.
  • Prior experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality food service settings is preferred.
  • Alternatively, you may be considered if you are a student with successful completion of a food handler training program, meet the qualifications as a cook, or possess a post-secondary diploma or degree in food and nutrition management.
  • Experience working in a long-term care/healthcare setting is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and maneuver a 500-pound food warming cart.
  • This role requires prolonged standing, walking, and repeated bending.
