ROLE OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Manager of Services and Supports, the Autism Support Assistant is responsible for delivering services that promote the health, safety, and personal fulfillment of individuals diagnosed with ASD.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide guidance and support in social skills, communication, and recreational activities.
- Identify and address barriers to achieving quality of life, ensuring personal outcomes are met for each individual.
- Administer medication in accordance with established procedures.
- Adhere to Behavioral and Crisis Protocols as outlined.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with families, support networks, and community members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a recognized institution or a Personal Support Worker certificate from an accredited program; OR
- Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) with one year of relevant experience, preferably in supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to work collaboratively within a team.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to physically assist adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Must complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification and perform required physical techniques; training provided at no cost.
- A valid Driver's License (minimum G2) and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must provide a Driver's Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points as a condition of employment.
