About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager Services and Supports, the Autism Support Assistant will provide high-quality services that maximize the health, safety, and personal fulfillment of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Key responsibilities include providing coaching and support in social skills, communication, and leisure activities. Additionally, the incumbent will identify and address barriers impacting an individual's quality of life, ensuring Personal Outcomes are met. This role also involves administering medication as per procedure and following established Behavioral and Crisis Protocols. The successful candidate will develop and maintain positive relationships with families, supports, and community members.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have completed a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or University or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or a registered and Ministry-approved Private Career College. Alternatively, the candidate may hold an Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) diploma and possess 1 year of related experience, preferably supporting individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The incumbent should possess solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
The successful candidate must be able to physically support adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and possess a valid Driver's License with a minimum G2. Access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to obtain a Driver's Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points are also essential.
