Job Summary

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Lead to join our team at the Food and Beverage Innovation Centre. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading the production and packaging activities, performing maintenance tasks, and supervising and training a team of production workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production Leadership: Oversee daily production activities to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Equipment Operation: Set up and operate complex food and beverage manufacturing equipment, ensuring optimal production and quality, and performing minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Develop and refine SOPs for equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures, and provide guidance and training to production workers.
  • Team Supervision: Provide guidance, training, and support to production workers to ensure tasks are performed according to established SOPs and protocols.
  • Quality Assurance: Work with the QA Specialist to monitor quality, ensuring raw materials and finished products meet quality standards, and implement corrective actions for any deviations.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory, production, and maintenance records, and report any discrepancies or shortages.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with food safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and direct the cleaning and sanitation of equipment, workspaces, and production areas to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of food production processes, equipment, and quality assurance principles; strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the operation of various types of manufacturing equipment; ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently or as part of a team; effective communication skills for training and collaborating with team members; proficiency in MS Office for documenting procedures and maintaining records; commitment to adhere to GMPs and all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); ability to work flexible hours to suit production needs; ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks with capability to lift and move materials and equipment as needed (up to 50lbs); willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
