Lead Production Technician Job Title: Lead Production Technician Company: BC Food and Beverage Innovation Centre at the Faculty of Land & Food Systems at UBC

The BC Food and Beverage Innovation Centre at the Faculty of Land & Food Systems at UBC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Production Technician to lead the production and packaging activities, perform maintenance activities, and supervise and train a team of Production Workers.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily production activities to meet production schedules and quality standards, setting up and operating complex food and beverage manufacturing equipment, and developing and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily production activities to meet production schedules and quality standards
  • Set up and operate complex food and beverage manufacturing equipment
  • Develop and refine SOPs for equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to Production Workers
  • Monitor quality and ensure raw materials and finished products meet quality standards
  • Oversee inventory, production, and maintenance records
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Direct the cleaning and sanitation of equipment, workspaces, and production areas
Requirements
  • Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program
  • Minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of food production processes, equipment, and quality assurance principles
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the operation of various types of manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently or as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills for training and collaborating with team members
  • Proficiency in MS Office for documenting procedures and maintaining records
  • Commitment to adhere to GMPs and all safety protocols
  • Ability to work flexible hours to suit production needs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
