Job Summary

The BC Food and Beverage Innovation Centre (FBIC) at the Faculty of Land & Food Systems at UBC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Production Technician to lead the production and packaging activities, perform maintenance activities, and supervise and train a team of Production Workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily production activities to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Set up and operate complex food and beverage manufacturing equipment, ensuring optimal production and quality, and perform minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures and provide guidance and training.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to Production Workers to ensure tasks are performed according to established SOPs and protocols.
  • Work with QA Specialist to monitor quality, ensuring raw materials and finished products meet quality standards and implement corrective actions for any deviations.
  • Oversee inventory, production, and maintenance records, and report any discrepancies or shortages.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Direct the cleaning and sanitation of equipment, workspaces, and production areas to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
Requirements
  • Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of food production processes, equipment, and quality assurance principles.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the operation of various types of manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills for training and collaborating with team members.
  • Proficiency in MS Office for documenting procedures and maintaining records.
  • Commitment to adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work flexible hours to suit production needs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks with capability to lift and move materials and equipment as needed (up to 50lbs).
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
