About the Role:
As a Security Guard with the University of Ottawa, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff. Reporting to the Team Coordinator, Parking Division, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring campus rules and standards are observed, and acting as a community liaison to maintain a visibly safe and welcoming campus environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and protection of individuals and University property by patrolling grounds and buildings.
- Interact with and provide initial support to persons experiencing mental health crises.
- Liaise with community and law enforcement partners to solve recurring issues.
- Build strong relationships with students, teachers, and support staff.
- Prevent and detect security hazards and enforce both criminal and provincial statutes, as well as city bylaws and University regulations.
- Perform preliminary and follow-up investigations, draft notes, and complete reports detailing observations and information received.
- At the request of the on-duty Team Coordinator, help train and evaluate new employees.
Requirements:
- Ontario Security Guard License
- First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen administration
- A valid Ontario driver's license with Abstract and Police check clearance
- Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)
Assets:
- Holding both Security Guard License and Private Investigator License
- Knowledge of the Use of Force Continuum and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Smart Serve Certification
- Knowledge of security practices, terminology, and understanding of relevant regulations
