Cultural Services Helper Job Description

Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services is a culturally responsive organization that provides holistic services to children, youth, and families. Our services are rooted in the values, beliefs, and principles of the Anishinabek culture.

Job Summary: We are seeking a Cultural Services Helper to assist in providing direct and indirect cultural services to the Agency, Board of Directors, and staff. The successful candidate will work closely with community Elders and cultural practitioners to develop and deliver locally accepted cultural practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and delivering cultural programs and services that reflect the values and principles of the Anishinabek culture.
  • Work with community Elders and cultural practitioners to develop and deliver locally accepted cultural practices.
  • Provide support to the Cultural Services Supervisor in the development and implementation of cultural services.
  • Assist in the preservation and promotion of traditional practices within member First Nations.

Requirements:

  • Self-identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • College diploma in Social Services or Native Studies, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years' experience in a social services organization developing and delivering cultural programs and services.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people, organizations, and communities.
  • Knowledge of Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services programs and services.
  • Respect for, sensitivity towards, and knowledge of Anishinabek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
  • Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in responding to child welfare.
