Position Overview

Reporting to the Cultural Services Supervisor, the Cultural Services Assistant plays a vital role in delivering both direct and indirect cultural services to the Agency, Board of Directors, and staff. This position is essential in developing and enhancing the cultural service practices of the Agency. The Cultural Services Assistant will collaborate with community Elders and cultural practitioners to create and implement culturally accepted practices that promote the preservation and celebration of traditional customs within member First Nations, thereby fostering a strong cultural identity.

Qualifications

  • Self-identification as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • College Diploma in Social Services or Native Studies is an asset; equivalent work experience will also be considered
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or Native Studies is preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a social services organization focused on cultural program development and delivery
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities and organizations
  • Familiarity with Niijaansinaanik Child and Family Services programs and services
  • Respect for and understanding of Anishinabek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings
  • Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in child welfare
  • Willingness to provide personal vehicle for job-related travel
  • Ability to pass a clear Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector
  • Possession of a Class 'G' Ontario Driver's License
  • Must have $1M auto insurance liability coverage
  • Provide an acceptable three-year uncertified Driver's Abstract
  • Physically capable of outdoor work, including some manual labor
