Position Overview
As a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor, you will play a vital role within the Primary Community Care team of the Government of Northwest Territories. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver direct, community-oriented, and culturally attuned mental health, addiction, and family counselling services to a diverse clientele, including individuals of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive counselling services addressing mental health and addiction issues.
- Act as a crucial referral source for clients requiring advanced treatment for complex addictions, family violence, and psychiatric disorders.
- Implement strategies focused on education, prevention, therapeutic counselling, outpatient treatment, and aftercare.
- Work effectively with various cultural groups, ensuring inclusivity for elders, adults, adolescents, children, and families.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or a related field with a strong emphasis on therapeutic counselling. A minimum of one year of relevant experience in therapeutic counselling, particularly in the realms of addictions, mental health, and family violence, is essential.
Additionally, candidates should have undergone clinically supervised education or work experience, encompassing at least 500 hours of therapeutic counselling, with a minimum of 120 hours dedicated to direct client interaction.
