Pension Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Pension Administrator to join our team at People Corporation, a national provider of benefits, retirement, wealth, wellness, and human resource solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pension Plan Administration: Ensure the ongoing administration of client pension plans in compliance with plan rules, legislative requirements, and internal practices.
  • Communication and Coordination: Communicate and coordinate with members, employers, union representatives, actuaries, auditors, custodians, and other third-party representatives regarding benefit entitlements, data, administration procedures, and interpretations of plan provisions.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain up-to-date records for members and clients.
  • Entitlement Determination: Determine entitlements on death, disability, retirement, termination, and marriage breakdown in accordance with specific Plan provisions, government legislation requirements, and current service standards.
  • Payment Authorization: Authorize payment of benefit entitlements and plan expenses from Custodian.
  • Peer Review: Peer review of pension calculation, authorizations, and other documents prepared by more junior members of the team.
  • Year-End Activities: Participate in year-end activities, including data updates, validations, reconciliations, annual pension statements, and actuarial valuation data.
  • Reconciliation: Perform reconciliation of monthly contributions postings and reports.
  • Government Forms: Prepare and file government forms, including Annual Information Returns, PAs, PARs, etc., as applicable.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Participate in ad-hoc projects, such as pensioner audits and data cleanups.
  • Workload Organization: Organize workload to ensure client and regulatory deadlines are met.
  • Process Improvement: Identify process improvements and work with the team to implement new procedures.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior members of the team.
  • Client Meetings: Attend client meetings, as applicable.
Requirements:
  • Excellent Organization Skills: Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Mathematical and Analytical Abilities: Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex pension rules and regulations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Work Ethic and Accountability: Strong work ethic and accountability, with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Actuarial Concepts: Good understanding of actuarial concepts related to pension administration.
  • Legislative Requirements: Good understanding of legislative requirements related to pension administration.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Intermediate to Expert MS Excel Skills: Ability to build and interpret pension calculators, perform data analysis, and create complex spreadsheets.
  • Intermediate to Expert MS Word Skills: Ability to create complex documents, including reports, letters, and memos.
  • High School Graduation Diploma or Bachelor's Degree: High school graduation diploma or bachelor's degree in business or mathematics.
  • Pension Administration Experience: 4 years of pension administration or analyst experience.
