Job Overview

As a Conservation Officer with the National Capital Commission, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with regulations and laws related to the protection of assets and natural resources. Your duties will include patrolling and monitoring NCC properties, enforcing laws and regulations, and providing public safety services.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field, such as Law Enforcement, Wildlife Protection, or Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement. You will also need to have one to three years of experience in enforcing laws and regulations, managing and monitoring properties, and providing public safety services.

Knowledge and Abilities

You will need to have a strong understanding of legal proceedings related to offences, as well as knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations governing the protection of assets and natural resources. You will also need to be able to stay calm under stressful situations, make sound decisions, and complete detailed reports.

Competencies

You will be expected to demonstrate integrity and respect, think critically and innovatively, work effectively with others, and show initiative and a proactive approach to getting things done.

Assets

Possessing a Pleasure Craft Operator Card, training for use of All-Terrain Vehicle and snowmobile, and a provincial trapping licence from Québec or Ontario would be considered assets in this role. You will also need to have knowledge of NCC regulations, including Traffic and Property Regulations, and be able to present testimonies and evidence in court.

Working Conditions

You will be required to work in a variety of environments, including rugged terrain and difficult weather conditions. You will need to be able to walk long distances, work evenings, weekends, and shifts outside of regular working hours, and wear a uniform including protective equipment and other operational tools if necessary.

Conditions of Employment

You will be required to possess or be eligible to obtain Secret security clearance, have a valid driver's licence and a good driver's abstract, and complete a psychological assessment and medical examination. You will also need to pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) or a similar evaluation.
