Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Agricultural Laborer to join our team at Maple Leaf Foods. As a key member of our farm operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our livestock, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feed and tend to livestock, including performing breeding activities and monitoring their health and well-being
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, plows, and other agricultural equipment
  • Follow food safety and security procedures, as well as animal bio-security protocols
  • Detect and report any disease or health problems in crops, livestock, and poultry
  • Set and monitor water lines, air flow, and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops
  • Maintain or assist in the maintenance of facilities and farm infrastructure, including cleaning stables, barns, barnyards, and pens

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic farm knowledge and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges
  • Strong team and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive work ethic and attitude, with a focus on attention to detail and quality of work
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and management
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to lift 25kg and work in a physically demanding environment
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to get to and from work located in a rural area
  • Weekend, holiday hours, and alarm attending are required on a rotational basis
  • Experience in hog production is considered an asset
