Geriatric Care Assistant

Baycrest is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Extern to assist our Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams in providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Clinical Extern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced therapists and contribute to the development of patient-centered care plans.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with Patient Mobility and Positioning: Safely assist patients with mobility, positioning, and transfers, utilizing mechanical lifts and assistive devices as needed.
- Support Treatment Plans: Assist with the implementation of PT/OT assigned treatment plans, focusing on functional and therapeutic exercises, both individually and in group settings.
- Assist with Patient Ambulation: Safely assist patients with ambulation, utilizing assistive devices such as canes, walkers, and wheelchairs as required.
- Accountability and Communication: Demonstrate accountability for patient care by adhering to Baycrest's policies and procedures, and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Treatment Intervention: Assist with treatment intervention under supervision, including individual and group-based activities, cognitive exercises, and range of motion exercises.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with staff and communicate with members of the interdisciplinary care team as needed.
- Patient Independence: Support the development of patient independence in self-care, productivity, and recreation/leisure participation.
- Patient-Centered Care: Assist with the provision of patient and family-centered care, which is goal-directed, evidence-based, and outcome-oriented.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement activities, including supporting social and leisure interaction activities, answering call bells, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Current Enrollment in PT or OT Graduate Program: Proof of current enrollment in an accredited PT or OT graduate degree program.
- Health-Related Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree in a health-related field is preferred.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to work independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team, effectively managing challenging situations.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Collaboration and Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, and adapt to changing situations.
- Organizational and Time Management Skills: Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Demonstrated effective critical thinking, analytical, decision-making, and problem-resolution skills.
- Interest in Geriatric Care: Interest in supporting our Geriatric population.
