The Senior Manager, AML Risk Strategy is responsible for spearheading the effective development, maintenance, and execution of the AML Program risk methodology utilized to evaluate Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Sanctions Compliance risks across the Bank of Montreal (BMO).

This position will oversee a team dedicated to the formulation, governance, and change management of the AML Program risk methodology. It will also establish frameworks to manage ML/TF and Sanctions risks for higher-risk customer segments and regions, ensuring that AML program risks are thoroughly assessed, managed, and monitored through various risk support processes across BMO.

The role requires constant adaptation to evolving internal and external conditions, managing risk and regulatory exposure with agility.

Qualifications include a university degree or relevant professional experience, along with demonstrated expertise in AML and a solid understanding of industry trends. Candidates should possess a strong grasp of banking processes and products.

This role entails overseeing, monitoring, and reporting on financial crime risks for a designated portfolio. The Senior Manager will develop and oversee a risk management framework that encompasses governance practices employed across BMO to mitigate financial crime risks.

Responsibilities also include providing policies, standards, methodologies, and controls that enhance transparency, accuracy, and consistency across various teams. The Senior Manager will collaborate with stakeholders to implement the methodology, metrics, and program standards for the assigned portfolio, ensuring compliance, effective monitoring, timely reporting, and the identification of necessary action plans.

Typically, candidates should have 7+ years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential knowledge areas include:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial crime risk management practices
  • Expertise in the designated business/product portfolio
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Expertise in quantitative techniques and economic capital methodologies
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with risk policy frameworks and quality control/testing frameworks

Successful candidates will be adept at managing ambiguity and making data-driven decisions.
