About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Contractors Estimator to join our team at Noront Steel (1981) Limited. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for preparing estimates of labour and/or material costs for various construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating: Prepare detailed estimates of labour and/or material costs for construction projects.
  • Master Format Estimates: Prepare Class A master format estimates for construction projects.
  • Computer Software: Operate CADD and other computer software systems to support estimating activities.
  • Quantity Take-Off: Utilize quantity take-off procedures to ensure accurate estimates.
  • Contract Management: Monitor and adjust contract expenditures to ensure project profitability.
  • Supply and Trade Management: Prepare and maintain a directory of supplies and trade contractors.
  • Communication: Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to discuss changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate estimates.
Requirements
  • Education: College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5 years or more of experience in construction estimating, architecture, commercial and/or industrial construction, or structural engineering.
  • Project Size Estimating Experience: Experience with estimating projects of various sizes, including $0 - $100,000, $1,500,001 - $4,000,000, $4,000,001 - $8,000,000, $100,001 - $500,000, and $500,001 - $1,500,000.
  • Transportation and Travel: Own transportation, parking paid by employer, own vehicle, and valid driver's license.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, with tight deadlines, and attention to detail.
  • Personal Suitability: Excellent oral and written communication skills, flexibility, organization, and team player.
