About the Role

As a member of the Complex Risk Solutions Group (CRSG), you will collaborate within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering comprehensive services to our clients. The role of a Risk Control Engineer is pivotal in providing expert insights into client operations, enabling effective risk management strategies. This encompasses not only risk transfer solutions but also various risk treatment methodologies aimed at enhancing overall risk posture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough risk evaluations of facilities and management systems, both independently and in collaboration with Underwriter Engineers representing program participants.
  • Perform and analyze Minimum Fire Loss (MFL), Probable Maximum Loss (PML), and Non-Loss Expectancy (NLE) assessments of client facilities.
  • Offer property risk control recommendations to clients on specific topics to mitigate potential risks.
  • Execute business interruption interdependency and contingency analyses for selected client operations.
  • Compile Engineering Survey Reports essential for insurance placements.
  • Develop comprehensive client risk profiles and strategic documentation to support effective insurance program renewals.
  • Serve as a liaison between Underwriter Engineers and client representatives, assisting clients in addressing Underwriter recommendations.
  • Oversee property loss prevention inspection reports, recommendations, and follow-up communications with Underwriter Engineers and/or third-party service providers.
  • Conduct risk control design reviews for new projects and facility enhancements to ensure cost-effective loss mitigation investments and ongoing insurability.
  • Propose risk improvement strategies and initiatives aligned with client business objectives.
  • Evaluate client procedures such as Emergency Response, Crisis Management, Business Continuity Plans, and Supply Chain Management, providing insights that reflect insurance requirements.
  • Research specific property risk control topics to support client risk mitigation efforts.
  • Analyze significant property loss investigations to identify probable causes and prevent similar future incidents, communicating findings to clients.
  • Develop and present informative sessions for clients.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree and a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of residence.
  • 10+ years of experience in Property Risk Control insurance, particularly with clients in the Natural Resource sector (oil and gas, mining, metals processing, chemical processing, and power generation including renewables).
  • Ability to travel internationally to visit client facilities as necessary.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages relevant to client operations is advantageous.
  • Experience in other Risk Control areas such as machinery, liability, and construction is beneficial.
  • Industry experience with clients is a plus.
