Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for delivering a wide range of programs and services that promote a healthy, inclusive, and vibrant community. As an Instructor, Specialized Aquafitness Specialist, you will play a key role in teaching specialized aquafitness programming to participants in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach specialized aquafitness programming to participants in a safe and enjoyable manner
  • Follow guidelines of the certifying agency and corporate and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and provide alternatives and options to participants
  • Understand contraindications for specialty populations and possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 11 and current
  • Certifications from a recognized certifying organization (or equivalent as deemed acceptable by management)
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience or equivalent apprenticeship
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aquafitness Instructor Specialty certification (CALA, YM-YWCA, WaterART or other recognized certification)
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate is an asset
  • Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate is an asset
Working Conditions

This is a part-time permanent position with various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends. The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
