Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is seeking a qualified Fitness Instructor to lead specialized aquafitness programs for participants. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching safe and enjoyable classes while following corporate and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach specialized aquafitness programming to participants in a safe and enjoyable manner
  • Follow guidelines of the certifying agency and corporate and departmental policies
  • Ensure participants' safety and well-being

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 11 and current
  • Certifications from a recognized certifying organization (or equivalent as deemed acceptable by management)
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience or equivalent apprenticeship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aquafitness Instructor Specialty certification (CALA, YM-YWCA, WaterART or other recognized certification)
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate is an asset
  • Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate is an asset

Working Conditions

  • Varies depending on location and shift

Language Requirements

  • Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies

Police Record Check

  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction
