Position Overview
The Office of the Auditor General is dedicated to conducting independent and objective financial, compliance, and performance audits across various City departments and agencies. Our mission is to enhance the value of City services and improve overall program effectiveness. We employ a systematic and unbiased approach to evaluate and strengthen risk management, control, and governance processes.
In this role, you will deliver a comprehensive range of assurance and investigative services to all Departments and the Corporation. Your efforts will focus on enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring value for money, and supporting the corporate vision in fulfilling the objectives of management and City Council. You will handle assignments of varying complexity, including significant audits and investigations, either as a project lead or as part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop actionable results and recommendations to assist clients in identifying and implementing enhancements in strategic and operational planning.
- Provide expert guidance on business processes, organizational design, change management, performance measurement, quality assurance, and risk management.
- Conduct audits and investigations with a focus on compliance and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to promote effective governance and accountability.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a four-year university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of six years of internal audit experience. Relevant experience in program evaluation, performance monitoring, business process re-engineering, and external auditing is also beneficial.
Certifications
Required certifications include Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with CPA Ontario, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with IIA Canada, or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth understanding of the City's operations, policies, and legislative framework.
- Familiarity with generally accepted auditing standards and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings professionally.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
Competencies
- Ability to foster positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor team members.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in diverse environments.
