We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Admissions Counselor to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a key member of our admissions team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional service to our students, parents, and guidance counselors.
Key Responsibilities
* Interpret and apply academic regulations, program and degree requirements
* Advise potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes
* Review and assess admissions applications
* Stay up-to-date on University programs, policies, and procedures
* Provide detailed explanations of admissions decisions
* Analyze statistical information to inform admissions projections and planning activities
* Provide formal job-related training
* Serve as a resource to others by providing job-related guidance
Essential Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
* Minimum four (4) years relevant experience in a high volume admissions environment, preferably a university or college institution
* Direct experience in counseling students in admissions to undergraduate, first-entry divisions
* Experience conducting presentations/workshops/training sessions to external and internal attendees
* Experience interpreting and applying the University's and education systems worldwide, admissions policies and requirements for all undergraduate programs as well as general university policies
* Experience with document management systems
* Advanced computer skills must include word processing, creating and manipulating spreadsheets, posting to and navigating websites, creating PowerPoint presentations
* Knowledge of institutional, government, agency, and department policies, procedures, and guidelines
* Ability to effectively provide information and advice to staff, students, and the general public – individually or in group settings
* Strong student service orientation: tact and diplomacy in dealing with students and students' family members, relate well with a diverse student population, at times address an upset or irate student, maintain confidentiality in working with student information
* Ability to adapt to new procedures quickly and accurately
* Must be able to use independent judgment and discretion when processing applications and responding to enquiries
* Ability to work in a high volume environment and ability to work well under pressure
Assets (Nonessential):
* Familiarity with the University's student information system or with a comparable system is highly desirable
* Familiarity with financial budgeting tools and resources is desirable
