Job Summary

Q-Block Computing is seeking a highly skilled Optical Thin-Film Engineer to join our team in Canada. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge quantum technologies in sensing, communication, and computation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Optical Thin Film Growth: Develop and optimize ultra-low-loss optical thin films using reactive Ion-Beam Sputter (IBS) deposition techniques, and characterize them using various methods such as ellipsometry, XRD, laser-based transmission measurement, optical profilometer, AFM, SEM, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and cavity-ringdown spectroscopy.
  • Cleanroom Organization and Maintenance: Ensure the cleanroom is well-organized and maintained, adhering to strict protocols and procedures.
  • General Shop Maintenance and SOP Development: Perform general maintenance tasks and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D teams to achieve technical milestones and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in optical thin film growth, with a strong preference for IBS techniques.
Skills and Qualities
  • Nanofabrication and Optical Physics: Basic knowledge of nanofabrication, optical physics, and material science.
  • Travel and Cleanroom Maintenance: Ability to travel between Edmonton and Wetaskiwin facilities, and maintain cleanroom organization and general shop maintenance.
  • Attention to Detail and Interpersonal Skills: Strong attention to detail, authenticity, and a sense of responsibility in all tasks, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
