Job Summary

Q-Block Computing is seeking a highly skilled Optical Thin-Film Engineer to join our team in Canada. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge quantum technologies in sensing, communication, and computation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Optical Thin Film Growth: Develop and optimize ultra-low-loss optical thin films using reactive Ion-Beam Sputter (IBS) deposition techniques, and characterize them using ellipsometry, XRD, laser-based transmission measurement, optical profilometer, AFM, SEM, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and cavity-ringdown spectroscopy.
  • Cleanroom Organization and Maintenance: Ensure the cleanroom is organized and maintained to meet the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • General Shop Maintenance and SOP Development: Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for general shop maintenance and ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams to achieve technical milestones and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
Qualifications
  • Education: Masters/PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years professional experience in optical thin film growth with a strong preference on IBS techniques.
Skills
  • Nanofabrication and Optical Physics: Basic knowledge of nanofabrication, optical physics, and material science.
  • Travel and Cleanroom Maintenance: Ability to travel between Edmonton and Wetaskiwin facilities, and general cleanroom maintenance and organization.
  • Attention to Detail and Critical Thinking: Strong attention to detail, authenticity, and a sense of responsibility in all tasks, and critical thinking and problem-solving mindset.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
