About the Role

At Lightmatter, we're pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence computing clusters with our cutting-edge chips. We're seeking a talented Photonics Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our innovative products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design high-performance photonics devices suitable for high-volume manufacturing, leveraging your expertise in photonic device physics.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Actively collaborate across disciplines with analog, digital, and physical design teams to layout photonic devices for key test and product tape outs.
  • Test and Validation: Work with the photonics test team to define requirements for device characterization, debug, and validation.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Analyze characterization data to ensure the device/system meets specifications, engage in problem-solving, and contribute novel architectural ideas.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Publish and present novel ideas related to photonics at premier optics/photonics conferences.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: PhD in EECS, Physics, or related discipline with 3 years of experience.
  • Technical Expertise: Must have knowledge of photonic device physics, demonstrated track record of design integrated silicon photonics components using Lumerical, Tidy3D, or equivalent.
  • Software Skills: Experience with code-based GDS creation such as GDS Factory or similar, large-scale layout, testing, and characterization of photonic devices.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions, can-do, positive attitude.
  • Prior Experience: Strong publication record in the photonics field a plus.
