About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President, Legal Affairs and Risk Management to join our team at Cowan Insurance Group. As a key member of our Executive Leadership Team, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal guidance and oversight to our organization.

Key Responsibilities

PHL

  • Assist with investment activities, including fund manager due diligence, document review, and compliance.
  • Oversee bank and custodian relationships.
  • Manage legal matters related to owned and leased property.
  • Lead information security efforts.
  • Maintain and manage group P&C insurance coverage, including policy renewal and claims.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative policies.
  • Manage trademarks and corporate policies.
  • Support due diligence and M&A activities.

CIG

  • Develop and implement business continuity management strategies.
  • Act as privacy officer and compliance officer.
  • Manage the whistleblower channel.
  • Conduct annual business risk assessments and provide ongoing reporting.
  • Oversee licensing processes.
  • Manage errors and omissions reporting and compliance.
  • Ensure best practices in data security, including SOC II and privacy compliance.
  • Negotiate and review contracts.
  • Collaborate with HR on policies, procedures, and employee relations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in law, with a focus on corporate governance and compliance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal role.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience simplifying and resolving complex problems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills, with experience handling multiple priorities and requests.
