Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the operational conduct of firefighters, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
  • Provide operational support to the Deputy Fire Chiefs in the formulation and execution of a comprehensive long-term strategic fire protection plan.
  • Offer relief coverage for Operations Battalion Chiefs and serve as the on-call duty chief for policy administration.
  • Utilize extensive fire ground operational experience to manage and refine operational systems and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with firefighters, fire officers, administrative teams, key stakeholders, and external agencies.
  • Perform administrative duties including data quality assurance, attendance management, performance metrics, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory ARFF training as per CARS regulations.
  • Evaluate staffing levels for optimal response and coverage, presenting recommendations to the Deputy Fire Chief.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Deputy Fire Chief in their absence, ensuring adherence to CARS regulations, NFPA standards, and the Airport Emergency Plan.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years in progressively responsible leadership roles within fire and rescue services.
  • Valid BC Driver's License, Class 3 with air brake endorsement.
  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Service Leadership, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in business and office software, including business writing skills for briefings, memorandums, and reports.
  • Ability to obtain D AVOP License and Restricted Radio Operator License - Aeronautical within three months of employment.
  • NFPA certifications including Fire Officer Professional Qualifications – Fire Officer III and IV, and Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications – Level II.
