Position Overview
The role of the Electrician involves the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial electrical systems and associated electronic controls. This position is crucial for interpreting technical drawings and adhering to electrical code specifications while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct necessary inspections of electrical systems to guarantee adherence to the Ontario Electrical Standards Act.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and electrical code specifications to establish the layout for industrial electrical installations.
- Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components as required.
- Commission and initiate new equipment.
- Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
- Document and update electrical modifications.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and procure materials in a cost-effective manner.
- Assess power requirements for new equipment and ensure compliance with the Ontario Electrical Code.
- Facilitate integration with CNC machinery.
- Collaborate with all plant services and contractors as necessary.
- Provide training and guidance to electrical staff to ensure they meet performance standards.
Qualifications
- Completion of technical school training and apprenticeship program.
- Possession of a valid electrician license (309A or 442A).
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience, including automation troubleshooting and familiarity with pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Proficient in reading schematic drawings for troubleshooting and equipment repair.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and electrical code specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
- Knowledge of telecommunication systems, network cabling, security systems, access control systems, and video surveillance systems is advantageous.
- Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, servomotors, and controllers.
