The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology at Durham College is seeking a part-time professor to teach Sample Management in the Chemical Laboratory Technician program. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree combined with industry credentials and a minimum of five years of recent work experience in testing laboratories.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive learning environment, utilizing principles of adult education, and effectively using educational technologies to support learning. They will also be expected to develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning and ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of relevant work/teaching experience, a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning, and current assessment methodologies. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proven track record of relevant work/teaching experience. Applicants must have the appropriate accreditation or trade certification.

Responsibilities
  1. Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  2. Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  3. Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  4. Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  6. Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  7. Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  1. A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Master's is an asset).
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  3. Working experience in testing laboratories (environmental, water, food industry or in some cases pharmaceutical industry including herbals, botanicals, cosmetics and personal care products).
  4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
  5. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  6. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  7. Proven track-record of life-long learning.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
  9. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
