Communications Specialist

Job Summary
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Communications Officer to provide strategic advice and support to the Chief and Senior Management Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all communication and networking activities, serving as a conduit to the LLRIB leadership, management, communities, and band members.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a communications plan for the communities served
- Provide strategic communications advice to the Chief & Council, Executive Director, and senior staff on a range of issues
- Coordinate responses to media inquiries and serve as the LLRIB spokesperson as assigned
- Prepare and manage design production of brochures as required
- Identify and implement opportunities for proactive media coverage to promote LLRIB programs, initiatives, services, special events, and accomplishments
- Develop regular communications including media releases for the LLRIB Emergency Control Group
- Develop speeches, presentations, and press releases
- Prepare briefing notes, taking points, and updates on specific communication issues
- Develop policies, standards, and strategies for social media and prepares content
- Develop regular NEWS bulletin and publications regarding LLRIB programs, opportunities, events, and community updates
- Develop strategic communication plans and calendars for LLRIB projects, programs, services, and/or issues management
- Reviews communication materials for compliance with communication policies, procedures, and standards
- Supports, coordinates, and/or implements community engagement initiatives
- Repairs and maintenance database for the storage and retrieval of information on LLRIB and communication activities and issues
- Leads program and policy evaluations to ensure consistency with the LLRIB's current priorities and strategic directions
- Researches and develops engagement agreements and protocols with other local governments, as well as the Province, Federal, and First Nations governments
Requirements
- University degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related discipline
- Certificate in Local Government Administration is an asset
- Minimum of five years of experience in policy research, corporate communications planning & coordination, preferably in a government environment
- Formal training and experience in crisis or emergency communications
- Superior communication skills
- Sound Judgement and decision-making abilities
- Class 5 Driver's License
- Understanding of Cree language is an asset
