Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about contributing to offender rehabilitation and enhancing community safety? If so, the Community Corrections Officer positions may be an excellent fit for you.

We are excited to present three distinct opportunities within the Community Corrections division:

(1) Community Corrections Officer in a Local Office:
Under the guidance of a Senior Community Corrections Officer and Manager, you will be tasked with implementing a wide array of community correctional programs and services for adult and juvenile offenders. Your role will involve ensuring that offenders adhere to supervision orders mandated by the Courts while engaging with community partners. Utilizing a structured case management approach, you will leverage your expertise to assess, develop case plans, and apply Effective Practices in Community Supervision to facilitate positive behavioral changes in clients.

With your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), you will conduct investigations, compile reports, and represent the organization in court as necessary. In the community, you will perform field visits and collaborate with local law enforcement, Courts, and correctional facilities as needed. Building and sustaining constructive relationships with community counseling and program resources will be essential, as you work to address systemic barriers affecting individuals and communities, while fostering a positive perception of community corrections. Strong time management and prioritization abilities are crucial for effectively managing case-related tasks.

(2) Community Corrections Officer in the Mobile Monitoring Unit (MMU):
Reporting to a Senior Community Corrections Officer and the Manager of the Edmonton Adult Attendance Centre, you will oversee remote supervision for pre-trial and low-risk sentenced offenders. Your advanced organizational and time management skills will be vital as you utilize RePath technology to supervise and guide a substantial number of clients across the province.

Officers in the MMU will conduct investigations, prepare reports, attend Court, and manage all aspects of effective case management while ensuring compliance with relevant federal and provincial legislation, divisional policies, and operational guidelines to uphold correctional and rehabilitative programs.

(3) Community Corrections Officer in the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU):

Under the supervision of an Electronic Monitoring Supervisor and the Manager of the Central Monitoring Unit, you will be responsible for overseeing clients who are mandated by the Court to undergo ankle bracelet electronic monitoring. This role will require shift work (including days, evenings, and nights) to support the 24/7 operations of the Central Monitoring Unit.

Key responsibilities of the Community Corrections Officer within the CMU will include administrative and case management tasks, as well as onboarding and policy-compliant supervision of clients under electronic monitoring conditions. You will manage the electronic monitoring technology, which includes creating offender/client profiles and supervision parameters, administering Court-ordered electronic monitoring conditions, and ensuring prompt responses to non-compliance. Additionally, you will monitor case files for clients in the electronic monitoring program, interpreting and addressing data from the electronic monitoring system and client case files in a timely manner, while coordinating with a Community Corrections Officer for casework that exceeds the scope of the Central Monitoring Unit.

As the ideal candidate for any Community Corrections Officer position within the Community Corrections division, you will possess:

  • A commitment to fostering safer communities and applying effective practices in community supervision (EPICS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in effective case management
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • A well-developed ability to prioritize competing workload demands effectively
  • Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with diverse teams within the workplace, community, and other government agencies
  • Proven ability to gather, analyze, interpret, and process information for investigative and casework purposes
  • Adaptability to change, with strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking for forward-looking solutions
  • Proficient communication skills, both professionally and objectively, utilizing a variety of interpersonal styles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation and the ability to adhere to and apply policy
  • Experience working with socially marginalized individuals and trauma victims, employing a trauma-informed approach
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Personal resilience and strong decision-making abilities
  • Access to transportation for community engagement with stakeholders
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and information
