Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to become a vital member of the Ultrasound team. This position plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services.

Responsibilities of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer include:

Conducting ultrasound examinations including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, small parts, and echocardiography, while adhering to patient safety protocols. Assisting the team by managing tasks such as: processing and fulfilling requisitions; entering pertinent information into the diagnostic imaging system; preparing patients for specific examinations; and performing ultrasound and Doppler techniques. Executing venipuncture for contrast media injections as instructed by the Radiologist/Cardiologist. Engaging in committees and approved research initiatives as required.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Must have completed a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography and hold certification with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or possess certification with Sonography Canada and have successfully completed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA). Completion of an Intravenous Therapy training course or relevant experience in IV Therapy, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as necessary.

Knowledge & Skills

Comprehensive understanding of sonography procedures including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, small parts, and cardiac sonography.
Familiarity with aseptic techniques. Proficient in safe operational procedures with diagnostic sonographic and medical imaging equipment. Knowledgeable in imaging acquisition applications and digital imaging storage and distribution systems such as PACS. Understanding of research methodologies and processes. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) to effectively interact with clients, families, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Ability to operate relevant equipment efficiently. Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Skill in prioritizing workload in conjunction with team members. Competence in CPR techniques. Proficient computer skills, including the effective use of a computerized client care information system. Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may vary based on operational needs and the terms of the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per current Public Health Orders, all employees at Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
