About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team at Sun Life. As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating eligibility for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products, assessing and classifying risk, and approving cases within your authority limit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze medical, personal, and financial information to evaluate eligibility for applications
  • Assess and classify risk, gathering additional information as needed
  • Approve cases within your authority limit, submitting cases exceeding limits for co-signature
  • Negotiate favorable decisions from reinsurers when necessary
  • Liaise with business leaders and advisors to deliver exceptional service and expertise
  • Respond to inquiries from financial advisors and general agents without revealing confidential content
Requirements
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required for frequent interactions with colleagues and internal partners
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter
  • Existing Life and Critical Illness signing authorities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Strong analytical, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of medicine and risk factors
  • Service-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Specialized training: ALU certificate and commitment to ongoing education
