About the Role
Zurich 56 Company Ltd is on the lookout for a Senior Surety Risk Underwriter to become a vital part of our dynamic Contract Surety team. This role will report directly to the National Director of Core Contract Surety and will involve collaboration with a skilled team of underwriters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and underwrite a designated portfolio of accounts with a degree of autonomy.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of clients' financial, technical, and organizational capabilities, ensuring alignment with Zurich's risk appetite.
- Deliver detailed recommendations for bond and account support, leveraging your financial and credit analysis skills.
- Actively pursue new business opportunities by nurturing existing relationships and establishing new connections with key brokers.
- Engage in broker/customer interactions and on-site visits with a clear and strategic purpose.
- Negotiate specific terms and conditions related to accounts and bonds.
- Participate in team meetings, providing insights on your portfolio, brokers, and market trends.
- Engage proactively in identifying target accounts and managing a qualified list of opportunities.
- Exemplify behaviors that reflect a commitment to corporate values.
- Maintain a valid driver's license as necessary.
- Ensure visibility within the office environment as required.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Experience as a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree and at least 3 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles, or 8 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Skills
- In-depth knowledge of the surety industry and its regulatory landscape.
- Experience working under tight deadlines for account submissions.
- Background in banking or the construction sector is advantageous.
- Strong risk assessment capabilities.
- Exceptional relationship-building, active listening, needs analysis, multitasking, and negotiation skills.
