Position Overview
The City of Mississauga is seeking a dedicated professional to join our Collections team as a Collections Coordinator. This pivotal role involves managing the collection of various City Accounts Receivables, including Provincial Offence Act fines, Property Taxes, and the Municipal Accommodation Tax.
Key Responsibilities- Process and monitor incoming payments;
- Conduct monthly reconciliations across different departments;
- Identify overdue accounts and implement appropriate collection strategies;
- Prepare detailed analyses to track and report on account statuses;
- Serve as a liaison for key stakeholders;
- Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries from both internal and external clients;
- Draft and send all necessary correspondence;
- Regularly update and maintain account information;
- Calculate and apply penalty and interest charges to property tax accounts as necessary;
- Facilitate payment arrangements with clients who have outstanding balances;
- Collaborate with Legal Services to resolve collection issues and initiate legal proceedings when required;
- Establish an annual audit framework and oversee external auditors during the audit process;
- Manage the appeals process and oversee write-offs;
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in finance, accounting, business, public administration, or a related discipline;
- A minimum of four years of relevant experience in customer service, credit, and collections;
- Experience in municipal taxation, provincial fines, accounts receivable, or bankruptcy is advantageous;
- Completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program is a plus;
- Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, procedures, by-laws, and policies, including the Municipal Act and Provincial Offence Act;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism;
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, emphasizing customer service;
- Strong analytical, research, and report writing capabilities;
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly SharePoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and WebEx;
- Familiarity with SAP, TXM Tax Manager, INFOR, CAMS, ICON, Crystal, and Municipal Connect is beneficial;
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure;
- Flexibility in duties and working hours is essential;
- Able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
Work Environment: This position operates in a hybrid work setting, requiring regular attendance at City Hall.
Compensation: The hourly rate is $67, with an annual salary of $89,424.00. The standard workweek consists of 35 hours.
