Job Title: Occupational Health Practitioner

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health Practitioner to join our team in the Employee Wellbeing section of Human Resources.

About the Role:

The Occupational Health Practitioner will play a critical role in promoting and maintaining a physically and psychologically safe and healthy workplace. This includes developing and implementing the work connectedness strategy, promoting work connectedness across business units, and aligning practices with HRM's focus on building and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the work connectedness strategy in consultation with the Manager, Health.
  • Promote and champion work connectedness across HRM business units.
  • Align work connectedness practices with HRM's focus on building and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Provide advice and expertise in partnership with management teams, union representatives, HR personnel, and Health Specialists in complex cases.
  • Support employees returning to work following extended absences by removing barriers.
  • Develop reports and metrics to assess outcomes.
  • Maintain Job Site Analyses for HRM Business Units.
  • Consult with Human Resources Business Partners, Health Specialists, and Business Unit Managers to establish and maintain standards, goals, and objectives for service provisions.
  • Participate in business planning for the HR Business Unit.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in occupational health nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or a related field.
  • Accredited certification in one of the following: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), or Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Five (5) years of experience in an occupational health background.
  • Experience with disability case management, physical demands analysis, functional capacity evaluations, job safety analysis, and ergonomic assessment tools.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing Stay at Work/Return to Work philosophies.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals overcome Stay at Work/Return to Work barriers associated with physical, neurological, and/or psychological health conditions.
  • Previous experience interacting with the Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia and Long-Term Disability programs.

Full-time, Permanent

Hours of Work:

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday (35 hours per week); flexibility may be required due to client demands

Salary:

Non-Union, Level NU8, $88,690 - $114,770
