OVERVIEW: The North Regional Care Program is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals or couples to provide a nurturing and holistic environment for up to four children. This program emphasizes community-based placements to ensure children remain connected to their home communities.

Ideal candidates will approach this role with empathy and a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history. Those familiar with Anishinaabe family systems and healing practices are particularly encouraged to consider this opportunity. Successful applicants will deliver Foster Care services within the First Nation, residing in a home provided by Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. (SAI).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver daily primary care for the children.
  • Promote holistic wellness, addressing the physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental needs of each child according to their developmental stages.
  • Foster a positive self-identity by nurturing family connections and community involvement.
  • Facilitate family and community ties through regular visits and participation in local events.
  • Ensure a safe and inviting home atmosphere with consistent routines.
  • Serve as a positive role model, guiding the development of daily living and social skills.
  • Manage household expenses, provide suitable clothing, and adhere to program and foster care standards.
  • Address incidents and concerns with a trauma-informed approach.
  • Assist children in attending medical, therapeutic, and counseling appointments.
  • Engage in the assessment and planning of both short-term and long-term care strategies for the children.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports for supervisor review on a regular basis.
  • Communicate effectively with the support team, supervisor, and agency personnel in a professional manner.
  • Participate in all required training sessions offered by SAI.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • House Parents (individuals or couples) must reside in the home located within the Southeast First Nation communities, providing a stable family environment.
  • Experience in delivering foster care services to children is essential.
  • A strong understanding of Indigenous community-care approaches is required.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities are necessary.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills are vital.
  • Proficiency in Anishinaabe is preferred and considered an asset.
  • A broad knowledge base regarding various social, psychological, and physical health needs is beneficial.
  • Successful candidates must provide proof of at least the first two COVID-19 vaccinations prior to commencing employment.
  • A valid Manitoba driver's license and reliable vehicle are required, along with a clear driver’s abstract.
  • Candidates must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment.
