Job Title: Reporter/Editor - Indigenous Storyteller

We are seeking a skilled Reporter/Editor to join our team at CBC Indigenous, a dynamic and creative online community that engages with and reflects the diverse Indigenous audiences across Canada.

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position based in Saskatchewan, where you will work collaboratively with our team to produce original journalism, write stories for online platforms, and deliver content to television and radio broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate, pitch, and pursue strong, creative story ideas that resonate with Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Indigenous stories and issues, and apply this knowledge to produce high-quality content.
  • Work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure to meet the highest standards of journalism.
  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts to gather information and insights.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features, and coordinate long-term coverage.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in digital news and social media, and apply this knowledge to enhance our online presence.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in journalism, preferably with a focus on Indigenous issues.
  • University degree or equivalent, with a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong news judgment and ability to work under deadline pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
