Clinical Informatics Training and Support Specialist

Job Summary
The Clinical Support Analyst Trainer, Clinical Informatics role is a key position within the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) that requires a unique blend of clinical expertise, technical knowledge, and training skills. As a Clinical Support Analyst Trainer, you will be responsible for providing clinical guidance and support to users of clinical information systems, as well as developing and delivering training programs to ensure effective use of these systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical guidance and support to users of clinical information systems, including responding to clinical systems utilization problems and providing resolutions via telephone or email.
- Develop and deliver training programs to ensure effective use of clinical information systems, including conducting needs analysis, creating training materials, and conducting formal presentations and demonstrations.
- Initiate and track resolution of incidents arising from clinical utilization problems, including gathering information from users, identifying trends, and communicating with technical support staff, medical staff, caregivers, and management.
- Develop and maintain procedures for clinical utilization of clinical information systems, including conferring with users, analyzing, assessing, developing, and recommending practices to streamline procedures for specific areas and/or for general distribution.
- Maintain various manuals and on-line training and reference documentation, including revising, editing, and distributing documentation when new modules are installed or existing modules are upgraded.
- Contribute to the establishment of educational standards for clinical systems training and work collaboratively with Project Managers, Operational Department Managers, Project Training Leads, Clinical & System Analysts, Super-users, End Users, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Evaluate effectiveness of training programs, activities, and resources, including analyzing learning outcomes, developing and using evaluation tools, assessing on-the-job performance, and determining opportunities for quality improvement.
- Provide input into the development of support procedures for caregivers in areas such as hardware/software installation, response levels, testing, and systems performance monitoring.
- Modify, test, and maintain clinical utilization systems processes from specifications and change requests, including gathering detailed information from users, identifying problems with existing processes, and recommending alternatives.
- Prepare a variety of reports using computer software for management, including producing administrative, statistical, and graphical reports as requested.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two years' recent nursing experience, including one year's recent experience with the use of microcomputer hardware and software, computer-based clinical information systems, and teaching/education experience in the development and delivery of training programs in a computerized client care environment.
- Broad knowledge of the Registered Nurses' Association of British Columbia standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with others in a consultative/collaborative manner.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical utilization of clinical information systems.
- Broad knowledge of patient care policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods, and tools.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism, and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments.
