About the Role:

Island Health is seeking a skilled Cardiac Anesthesiologist to join our team at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC.

Job Summary:

We are a tertiary care facility and the referral centre for cardiac surgery patients on Vancouver Island. Our cardiac anesthesia group is involved in on-pump coronary artery bypass surgeries, complex valve surgery, aortic surgery, laser lead extractions, catheter-based structural heart procedures, TAVIs, and TEVARs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide cardiac anesthesia services for a wide range of surgical specialties, including cardiac, thoracic, bariatric, ENT, urology, vascular, orthopedic, ophthalmologic, and plastic surgery.
  • Manage postoperative cardiac surgery patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVU).
  • Participate in preoperative assessments of cardiac surgery patients and provide anesthesia preoperative consultation clinic services.
  • Contribute to the teaching of a cardiac fellow, medical students, and residents.
  • Collaborate with a collegial cardiac anesthesiologist team to provide high-quality patient care.

About the Department:

The Victoria Department of Anesthesiology consists of 50 full-time equivalent anesthesia positions covering 2 tertiary sites in the city. We are a fellowship training centre affiliated with the University of British Columbia.

Requirements:

  • Current experience managing postoperative cardiac surgery patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVU).
  • Significant time spent in our department, either as a trainee or locum.
