Key Responsibilities
  1. Support and Guidance: Provide support to people with intellectual disabilities, including assisting with daily activities, personal care, medication administration, and meal preparation.
  2. Health and Wellness: Monitor and support health issues for each person supported, as required.
  3. Home Maintenance: Assist people supported to ensure their home is well maintained and image enhancing.
  4. Communication and Community Inclusion: Encourage self-expression of people supported, and utilize knowledge of verbal and non-verbal communications, including alternative communication systems and techniques.
  5. Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: Work collaboratively with the team, people supported, and their families to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
  6. Documentation and Administration: Coordinate and ensure completion of specific documents, including inspections, checklists, audits, repairs, and maintenance, and budget expenditures in collaboration with the manager.
  7. Mentorship and Leadership: Act as a mentor and role model to team members.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: Developmental Services Worker Diploma (preferred), or Social Services Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker Diploma with some experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.
  2. Team Leader Experience: Will consider a University Degree with a minimum of 1 year of experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.
  3. Driver's License and Vehicle: Must have a valid Ontario Driver's License (Class G or G2), access to a reliable vehicle, and insurance.
  4. First Aid and CPR: Current standard First Aid / Level A CPR certificate required.
  5. Computer Skills: Proficient with PC computer environment; MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and other software.
  6. Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Good conflict resolution and crisis management skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written).
  7. Teamwork and Problem-Solving: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with families as necessary, good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  8. Language Skills: Bilingualism in English/French or other language would be considered an asset.
