  • Craft detailed financial strategies tailored to client goals, which include:
  • Collecting essential data through comprehensive client analysis.
  • Drafting, assessing, and refining the financial strategy and client needs overview to ensure it meets their unique specifications.
  • Presenting the financial strategy and related tactics to the client.
  • Spotting opportunities to strengthen client relationships and enhance business results.

Serve as a specialist and advocate for financial planning, a key offering of Scotia Wealth Management:

  • Deliver expert financial planning advice on intricate strategies.
  • Motivate advisors and Business Relationship Managers to weave financial planning into their operational frameworks.
  • Highlight the advantages, benefits, and results of financial planning to both advisors and clients.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (taxation, insurance, estate and trust, philanthropy, etc.) to ensure a cohesive and structured approach to financial planning.
  • Provide guidance and support in utilizing local software.
  • Organize and lead workshops and seminars for clients and staff on contemporary financial planning subjects.

Foster Relationships:

  • Build professional connections with local external specialists (such as CPAs, attorneys, or other qualified professionals) to deliver optimal service in complex planning scenarios.
  • Develop relationships with advisors, Business Relationship Managers, and other internal specialists to promote teamwork.

Adhere to established professional practices of financial planning and comply with internal service level agreements:

  • Stay updated on all matters related to financial planning.
  • Follow standard procedures, best practices, and professional codes of conduct concerning client affairs.
  • Meet or surpass expectations regarding service level agreements.

Contribute to the effective operation of the Financial Planning team:

  • Engage actively in team learning and development initiatives and enhance team performance.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members and various business sector resources and functions.
  • Deliver quality service to clients consistently.
  • Encourage a culture of open and honest communication.
  • Participate in individual review meetings and team discussions.
  • Support the expression of innovative ideas or approaches.
  • Share knowledge and experience to aid in the development of all team members.
  • Design and implement a relevant employee development plan.

Essential Skills:

  • Possess extensive technical and practical knowledge of the financial planning process.
  • Ability to simplify complex financial concepts.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly establish trust.
  • Have practical knowledge of wealth management activities, including the value proposition, various products and services offered to high-net-worth clients, and their delivery methods.
  • Work independently and proactively, as well as collaboratively within a team of experts to identify opportunities while providing exceptional client service. Additionally, leverage expertise at the right time and in the appropriate manner to optimize client service and wealth management team opportunities.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of financial planning software (Naviplan).
  • Willingness to travel within a specific region to meet with clients to achieve goals efficiently.
  • Knowledge of insurance products and solutions.

Educational Background:

  • University degree.
  • Certified Financial Planner designation (IQPF - title applies only in Quebec).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a financial planner for high-net-worth clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Life Insurance certification.
  • Professional designation (CA, CMA, CGA, LLB).
  • Canadian Securities Course.
  • Additional courses on estate planning or taxation.

Fluency in English and French is required for this role based on the assessment of language needs conducted by Scotia Bank. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate closely with other head office teams primarily working in English and serve an English-speaking clientele.
