Job Overview

Arcadis is in search of a Director of Business Operations for the Buildings Engineering sector within the Places Business Area in Canada. This pivotal role reports directly to the Business Area Director.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Director of Business Operations, your primary focus will be on strategically enhancing the business unit's footprint in the region, aligning with the overarching GBA Places strategy and financial objectives. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  1. Executing the Places Strategy:
    Steer the business unit with full accountability for profit and loss performance, ensuring high-quality service delivery; develop and oversee the execution of strategies that promote service excellence and sustainable growth.
  2. Inspiring and Developing a Diverse Team:
    Recruit talent, set clear objectives, and assess performance to cultivate a motivated workforce equipped to meet program goals.
  3. Formulating and Implementing the Business Plan:
    Ensure that the team comprehends the business plan and their roles in achieving it, with a focus on quality, global service delivery, and integration.
  4. Identifying and Targeting Clients:
    Drive organic revenue growth through the provision of exceptional services.
  5. Building Strong Relationships:
    Establish lasting connections with clients to grasp their business needs, ensuring satisfaction and fostering revenue growth.
  6. Coaching and Mentoring Managers:
    Guarantee project success through effective governance and improved client satisfaction.
  7. Identifying Talent:
    Encourage career advancement by guiding individuals to suitable development opportunities.
  8. Resource Utilization Decisions:
    Maintain the integrity of the unit's structure to optimize resource allocation.
  9. Managing Service Delivery Risks:
    Ensure adherence to governance processes to achieve service excellence and client satisfaction.
  10. Understanding Client Needs:
    Stay informed about key trends and emerging opportunities within the business unit's client base.
  11. Fostering Interdepartmental Relationships:
    Encourage collaboration to maximize cross-selling and trading opportunities.
  12. Creating a Safe Work Environment:
    Prioritize health and well-being while promoting talent identification and career development.
Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer or Architect in Canada, possessing over 10 years of experience in leading and expanding a significant business function within a professional services environment. You will demonstrate the ability to inspire diverse teams towards a unified goal and exhibit strong leadership capabilities.

Exceptional intellectual, professional, and interpersonal agility will be essential. You should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels, particularly with senior management. Your ability to build relationships will be crucial.

Technical acumen to identify and manage risks in a design-oriented business unit is necessary, alongside well-developed commercial skills and a solid understanding of the industry, demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit.
