Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to become part of the Chronic Disease Services team in West Vancouver, BC. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to patient care.

In your role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with VCH, you will:

  • Provide expert leadership and apply specialized knowledge to ensure the delivery of safe, ethical, and high-quality care to specific patient populations.
  • Serve as a clinical resource, offering consultation and support to the interdisciplinary care team, other healthcare professionals, and students.
  • Foster excellence in patient-centered care, education, and research initiatives.
  • Engage in direct patient and family care as necessary.
Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a post-basic specialty nursing program and a minimum of three (3) years of recent, relevant experience in the specialized clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for local travel may be required.

  • Proven ability to provide clinical leadership and direct work efforts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Understanding of various healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practice, Harm Reduction, and Strengths-Based Care.
  • Commitment to promoting Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Capability to deliver competent and culturally safe care across diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in individual and group settings.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and guiding others through challenges.
  • Adaptability to new and unexpected situations.
  • Ability to lead change and support colleagues through transitions.
  • Expertise in assessment and treatment techniques for specialized patient populations, utilizing evidence-informed practices.
  • Experience in developing and delivering educational programs for staff, patients, and families based on educational theories and best practices.
  • Ability to create a supportive and innovative learning environment.
  • Familiarity with research processes and methodologies.
  • Competence in CPR techniques.
  • Proficient in using computerized client care information systems and relevant software applications.
  • Ability to operate related medical equipment.
Additional Information

This position is associated with the North Shore Diabetes Education Centre. Clinical experience with clients of all ages in the prevention and management of diabetes is essential. Education and care may be provided through in-person and virtual appointments.

Experience with insulin pump therapy and certification as a Diabetes Educator are advantageous.
