Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Engineering Manager to join our team at BlueRock Therapeutics. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining and overseeing our buildings and equipment to ensure a safe, functional, and reliable work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance on facilities and make repairs as needed to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Inspections and Scheduling: Schedule routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors to ensure timely and effective maintenance.
  • Work Order Management: Complete work orders and monitor day-to-day operations to ensure smooth facility operations.
  • Building Management System: Monitor the Building Management System and emergency response as needed to ensure prompt action in case of emergencies.
  • Critical Equipment Alarms: Respond, evaluate, and document critical equipment alarms using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Documentation and Compliance: Organize and track all documentation required in a controlled laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, including HVAC, compressed gas, boilers, chillers, fan units, and other related systems.
  • Daily Inspections: Conduct daily inspections to ensure facilities utilities and space are in optimum condition, including critical cleanroom infrastructure.
  • Cleanliness and Sanitation: Create a high standard of cleanliness across the facility by partnering with internal and external stakeholders, including cleaning staff and pest control services.
  • SOP Development and Training: Responsible for the content of all internal facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring department compliance with training requirements.
  • Construction and Expansion: Collaborate with the team during construction and expansion projects to ensure smooth facility operations.
  • Vendor Management: Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with external vendors and contractors for facility-related services and projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
  • Work Order Prioritization: Prioritize and delegate work orders for the team to ensure efficient facility operations.
  • Collaboration and Improvement: Successfully collaborate cross-functionally to implement improvements to enhance overall facility functionality and partner with the LabOps and EHS team to develop and maintain emergency response plans.
  • Mentorship and Development: Mentor junior employees as they develop their engineering and facility skills.
  • Sustainability and Energy Efficiency: Develop and implement initiatives to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability within the laboratory facilities, aligning with corporate environmental goals.
  • On-Call Support: Provide on-call support as needed to ensure prompt response to facility-related issues.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related life science field with 11+ years of experience, or 15+ years of relevant experience in Biotech/Pharma facilities.
  • Experience: Experience in working with mechanical HVAC and building controls, hands-on experience with maintenance of equipment, and expertise in BSL2, cleanrooms, and cGMP spaces.
  • Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, keen attention to detail, highly organized, and demonstrated flexibility in adjusting to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Leadership: Has led high-performing teams and has a client-focused mindset.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in working with electronic systems such as CMMS, MS Suite, Smartsheet, OneNote, and document management.
Work Environment

In this position, you will work in a controlled laboratory environment with potential exposure to chemicals and biohazards consistent with somatic cell therapy culture. Mandatory use of personal protective equipment is required. Team players willing to work in an environment where individual initiative, accountability, and professional maturity are required may be required to work occasional weekends and off-hours on an as-needed basis. Travel between sites may be required.
