Job Summary

The Pharmacist provides critical distribution pharmacy services by interpreting medication orders, assessing prescriptions, and ensuring accurate dispensing and labeling. This role requires effective communication with healthcare professionals, clients, and other team members to resolve prescription clarification and problem resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret medication orders and prescriptions using a computerized medication information system in accordance with legal, professional, and departmental policies.
  • Assess prescriptions for therapeutic suitability by evaluating client health status and needs, including obtaining information from appropriate sources and reviewing client demographics.
  • Communicate with physicians, clients, and other healthcare team members for prescription clarification and problem resolution.
  • Provide instructions to others on proper use, administration, storage, and disposal of medications.
  • Participate in the collection of data for medication use evaluation projects and implement dispensary-based medication safety initiatives.
  • Maintain records for narcotic and controlled drugs, special access program drugs, and departmental statistics in accordance with legal, professional, and departmental standards.
  • Contribute to internal publications and participate in clinical drug trials by dispensing medications and completing associated documentation.
Qualifications
  • Current registration as a Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of drug distribution processes in a community setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal, and written skills.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment while upholding legislative requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare practitioners and clients.
