Good Shepherd is in search of a compassionate and committed individual to join our team as a Mental Health Crisis Worker - Barrett Centre.
Your Impact
The Barrett Centre offers crisis intervention services to individuals aged 16 and older, regardless of gender identity. Our program includes 16 short-term respite beds, in-person and telephone support, information and referral services; crisis assessment, counseling, and support; as well as symptom stabilization for those facing a mental health crisis.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
- Exhibit compassion, hospitality, and a non-judgmental attitude.
- Conduct risk and suicide assessments, crisis intervention, and de-escalation strategies.
- Develop care plans and provide crisis counseling.
- Engage in continuous monitoring and evaluation; offer individual support.
- Facilitate community referrals and advocacy; collaborate with other service providers.
- Participate in shared hands-on responsibilities for program operations.
- Adhere to Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risks to clients, staff, and property.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Good Shepherd, with sensitivity to issues related to mental illness, addictions, poverty, homelessness, and dual diagnosis.
- A degree in social work, nursing, or a related field is required.
- Five years of experience working with adults in mental health and addictions is preferred.
- Previous experience in crisis intervention is an asset.
- Ability to adapt interventions to diverse populations.
- Fluency in a second language is advantageous.
- CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification is required.
- Commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices and alignment with the mission and values of Good Shepherd.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety practices and responsibilities under current legislation.
