Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Manager and Chief of Interprofessional Practice for Speech-Language Pathology, the Clinical Speech Specialist will be responsible for the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of swallowing difficulties and communication disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This includes, but is not limited to, rehabilitation, complex continuing care, palliative care, psychiatry, behavioral neurology, transitional care, and outpatient clinic environments. The Clinical Speech Specialist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to the integrated care plans for clients, and provide education and training to families, caregivers, and volunteers to enhance patient support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough clinical assessments, develop intervention strategies, and implement treatment plans for adult patients in various care settings.
  • Collaborate with an integrated team to ensure optimal patient care and achievement of clinical objectives.
  • Provide training and support to families, caregivers, and volunteers regarding swallowing and communication disorders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Active membership with the College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario ('CASLPO') in good standing.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in clinical evaluation of swallowing disorders.
  • Experience with Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge in assessing and managing adult neurogenic communication disorders, including aphasia, motor speech, voice, and cognitive communication disorders (such as dementia), along with familiarity with various treatment methodologies.
  • Experience in geriatric and/or neuro-rehabilitation settings is preferred.
  • Background as a clinical educator is a plus.
  • Interest in clinical research and collaboration with researchers is encouraged.
  • University appointment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in evidence-based practice.
  • Strong skills in client and family-centered care and team collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in diverse team environments.
  • Positive attendance record and adherence to professional clinical infection control standards.
