Position Overview:

TAL Life LTD is currently seeking a Senior Tax Consultant to join our team in a permanent capacity. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Treasury and Taxation, you will play a crucial role in supporting Canadian tax compliance, reporting, and strategic planning for a diverse range of corporate and partnership structures within real estate investment funds across various Canadian jurisdictions. This role will also involve addressing inquiries related to tax implications of transactions and collaborating closely with external tax advisors on various planning elements and technical tax inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and coordinate all aspects of tax compliance and return submissions for multiple partnerships, corporations, and trusts in collaboration with external firms;
  2. Manage the relationship with the Canada Revenue Agency concerning audits, information requests, and administrative matters, preparing necessary responses;
  3. Supervise GST/HST compliance and filing obligations across various real estate funds;
  4. Administer land transfer tax compliance and filing processes with relevant municipalities;
  5. Review and address investor inquiries regarding tax reporting and individual impacts;
  6. Collaborate with internal business units to provide tax support services under the guidance of executive management.

Qualifications for Success:

  1. Completion or near completion of CPA designation;
  2. A minimum of 3 years of experience in taxation and compliance at an analyst or associate level;
  3. Strong understanding of tax legislation and compliance requirements for partnerships, corporations, and trusts;
  4. Familiarity with the Excise Tax Act and GST/HST filing and compliance issues;
  5. Excellent communication skills to effectively articulate complex tax matters to both financial and non-financial stakeholders;
  6. Experience with corporate reorganization and asset transfer transactions and their associated tax implications is considered an asset;
  7. Experience in the real estate sector is also considered an asset.
