Position Title:
Bio-Cementation Scientist 1 (NOC 21110)
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise laboratory technical staff, medical clinical personnel, graduate students, and fellow research scientists (1 to 2 individuals).
- Collaboratively design the framework of technical projects utilizing experimental design methodologies.
- Conduct primary research focusing on the formation of pellets and briquettes for the mining sector.
- Engage in secondary research concerning mine tailing stabilization, dry stacking of tailings, and dust management.
Additional Duties:
- Isolate organisms that produce urease or other carbonate-forming enzymes or pathways, and work on bioaugmentation and/or biostimulation of these organisms in various geological substrates.
- Oversee 2-3 laboratory projects concurrently.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on projects that include bioinformatics and analytical characterization.
- Maintain consistent and transparent communication with Allonnia's technical team, partners, and collaborators, even when sharing unfavorable updates.
- Attend and present at 1-2 technical conferences annually.
- Collect and prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
- Participate in the technology transfer process from Allonnia to deployment partners.
Record Keeping and Compliance:
- Maintain detailed records of work executed and activities performed in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, supporting QA, QC, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment, including setup, cleaning, and proper care.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and uphold efficient laboratory policies.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Sustainable Resource Engineering, or a related scientific discipline; a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Resource Engineering, Microbiology, or a similar field is also acceptable.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in theoretical Biotechnology for Resource Engineering, including organizing and managing research data with a focus on accuracy and documentation.
- Proven experience in managing multiple projects to successful completion.
Skills:
- Strong oversight and coordination abilities, with the capacity to liaise effectively with team members, management, and clients to ensure project standards are met.
- Proficient in identifying risks and developing contingency plans promptly.
- Knowledge of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and theoretical understanding of non-destructive testing methods (UCS-Instron, Falcon, Needle penetration).
- Practical experience with advanced microbial techniques (microbial culture, isolation, purification, storage, etc.), gel electrophoresis (SDS-Native PAGE), and FTIR/ICP analysis.
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts in simple terms.
